This insect completes up to 13 generations per year depending on the climatic conditions, in climates with water and food it can have several overlapping generations per year.
It causes great economic damage to red fruit crops. It is native to Southeast Asia, although it is currently widespread worldwide.
Damages occur directly to the fruits by causing them to fall or damage them and indirectly, by being the injuries caused , an entry point for pathogenic organisms.
