The Box Tree Moth (Cydalima perspectalis) is a lepidopteran whose number of generations can vary from 1 to 4 per year depending mainly on the temperature.

It spends the winter in the larval phase protected between leaves wrapped by silk threads . When the good weather arrives, it becomes active and begins to feed voraciously on the leaves until its development is complete. Adults are good fliers, being able to cover great distances in a short time. The flights are nocturnal and begin in spring, lasting until the first days of winter; mass flights occur at the end of summer.

It is an invasive alien species, native to eastern Asia, which has spread rapidly throughout Europe. It has become the biggest problem for boxwoods, both forestry and ornamental, as it feeds on their leaves and severely defoliates them. When it affects the bark it is more serious even reaching the desiccation and death of the plant. The attacks begin in the lower parts of the plant, where the most mature leaves are.
