Pest Behaviour
The Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella) is a lepidopteran with a life cycle with two complete generations per year, and one incomplete one that will complete its cycle the following season. The first generation of adults occurs from the second half of April, and the second emerges between the end of June and the beginning of July.
It is one of the main pests on pome fruits. It mainly affects apples, pears and quince. Secondary hosts can be walnut, apricot, plum, peach, and cherry. The main damage occurs in the fruit, where the larva digs its galleries towards the center of the fruit and emerges again.
Surveillance through the use of pheromones is key to detecting the first individuals, monitoring the population, detect the level of risk and decide the appropriate moment of treatment with authorized phytosanitary products if necessary.
